Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)

Thanks to its increasing popularity and media exposure, much of the stigma associated with face lift is now gone, and women and men throughout the country are taking advantage of the many benefits a face lift can offer. Sagging facial skin, crow’s feet, jowls, drooping eyelids and wrinkles are the most visible signs of aging. Face lift can address all of these issues and restore a youthful, refreshed glow to the face. Additional benefits include increased self-esteem and improved self-image. Unlike procedures of the past that produced a stretched, artificial appearance, techniques used today create more natural-looking results.

Face lift is performed using local anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia. A basic face lift procedure involves making an incision around the hairline and the ear. The doctor then removes excess skin and fat and manipulates and repositions the area to create the most aesthetic result possible. If necessary, underlying facial muscles can also be tightened at this time. Ancillary procedures, such as fat injections and BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, can also be performed in conjunction with face lift surgery to further enhance results.

At your consultation, Dr. Birnbaum will determine which face lift technique will work best for you by thoroughly examining your facial structure and discussing your surgical objectives. Contact us today to learn more.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is often referred to as a "nose job." The procedure can be used to reduce, enlarge or reshape the nose. As the most central part of your face, the nose can have a considerable impact on the appearance of other facial features. Rhinoplasty can dramatically improve overall appearance and bring a sense of harmony and balance to the face. The procedure can also improve breathing by opening blocked nasal passages.

The procedure usually takes between two and three hours and is performed under general or sedation anesthesia. Depending on the surgical objectives, the doctor will make an incision on the inside or outside of the nose. The skin is then lifted away from the cartilage. The next part of the procedure is customized to meet unique surgical goals and objectives. The doctor may remove bone or cartilage from the area or even use a graft. Once the skin is reattached over the new bone structure, the doctor will attach a splint to ensure that the nose maintains its structural integrity during healing.

Most rhinoplasty patients are fully healed within three to four weeks following surgery.

Forehead/Brow Lift

Sun exposure, repetitive muscle contractions and age can all cause the area above the eyes to show signs of aging much faster than other areas of the face. Horizontal lines on the forehead and vertical lines between the eyebrows can give you a tired, sad or angry appearance. As time begins to etch itself into the skin, many people begin to seek ways to renew their appearance through cosmetic surgery.

Forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, can smooth away wrinkles and fine lines and make the face look younger and more refreshed. During the surgery, the doctor will lift the forehead skin, remove any excess fat and skin and close the incision, which is usually made inconspicuously along the hairline.

Several other procedures can be combined with forehead lift to enhance results. Dr. Birnbaum will work closely with you to create a customized treatment plan.

Eyelid Surgery - Blepharoplasty

The skin around the eyes tends to lose elasticity and droop as we age. Muscles may also begin to weaken, causing the area around the eye to sag and droop. This can result in a tired, aged appearance.

Upper or lower eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) removes excess fat, skin and muscle from the eye area and significantly rejuvenates the face. Upper eyelid surgery can correct a sagging and drooping upper lid, while lower eyelid surgery addresses puffiness or ‘bags’ under the eyes. In extreme cases, upper eyelid surgery can even improve vision if sagging skin has impaired eyesight.

The incisions for eyelid surgery are usually made inconspicuously along the natural creases of the eye. New techniques have also emerged that allow the doctor to make the incision just inside the eyelid.

Whichever technique is used, you can rest assured that you will be in the capable hands of experienced cosmetic surgery professionals dedicated to producing the best possible results for you.

Facial Implants

Facial implants are a popular choice among patients wishing to restore volume and structure to the face and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Facial implants are also commonly used in reconstructive procedures.

Many different types of facial implants are currently available. Dr. Birnbaum uses safe, high quality facial implants and works closely with each individual patient to determine which approach will produce the best possible results. Facial implants are often used in conjunction with such cosmetic surgery procedures as face lift and blepharoplasty.

This increasingly popular technique produces amazing results with minimal discomfort and scarring.

Chin Implants – Chin implants can create a more defined jawline and restore balance to the face. This technique produces dramatic results, particularly for those with very weak chins.

Cheek Implants - Used for cosmetic or restorative reasons, cheek implants add volume to the cheek area. This technique is particularly helpful for people with hollowed cheeks.

Contact Dr. Birnbaum if you are interested in facial implants or improving your overall image with cosmetic surgery.
